Facts about the KUMBO MUNICIPALITY
Education in the Kumbo Municipality:

The Kumbo Municipality is highly scholarized. More than 80% of school-going-age children is regularly enrolled in the several institutions in the municipality. There are over 67 primary and nursery schools, over 20 secondary and high schools and 2 post secondary professional schools. The missionaries notably the Catholics that were closely followed by the Baptists introduced education in Kumbo.

The first secondary school in Kumbo was St. Augustine’s College. This school has passed out some of the finest Cameroonians that have held and are still holding important positions in both the public and private sectors. Computer literacy is gaining grounds in Kumbo. There exist computer-training centers that offer computer training to both the young and the old, making the population to gradually become computer literate. Kumbo is now hooked up to the Internet with already one Internet Service Provider and many cyber-cafés at its disposal.

FOSTERING EDUCATION:

Kumbo Council's contribution at the time when the world is fast becoming a global village and at the time when education has become a basic necessity in the world, the Kumbo Council is leaving no stone unturned to foster education. Education is a very important component in the human world and it is often said, "educating a child is educating the nation", thus the Kumbo Council in its development goals takes education as one of its top most priorities.

The Kumbo Council awards indirect scholarships to students whereby every long vacation, it employs close to 200 young boys and girls for holiday jobs. The pre - selection is often done according to the performance of students in school, whereby students are chosen according to merit.. Applications are handed in alongside report cards as proof. Students work for two months after which they are remunerated and that greatly helps when schools resume to buy some school needs and even pay part of their school fees. This laudable move helps encourage good performance at school, since those students who could not be selected for the job because of their bad performance in school tend to work harder.

Cameroon schools nowadays are often allocated to some areas without any basic infrastructure. The tendency is that private homes are rented as classes and the environment is not often conducive for learning. Such schools found in the Kumbo Urban Municipality, often get material assistance from the Kumbo Council, in form of nails, bags of cement, zinc and council tippers to transport material like sand and stones. The most recent case is that of the Shisong Government Primary School, which is just a year and some months old, with an enrolment of 173 pupils, a class seven school, handled by six teachers, where a bundle of zinc was offered to the newly acquired school. In some cases the council assists a school in the purchase of some equipment like computers, such is the case of the Government Bilingual High School, Kumbo. In addition to this, the council offers some financial help at the end of each academic year to some schools, which are randomly selected and monetary assistance rendered to them. Schools that are not selected for this year are consequently selected the following year.

In brief, some of the impact-making schools in Kumbo include: Government Bilingual High School - Kumbo, Saint Augustine's College - Nso, Government Technical High School - Kumbo, Presbyterian Comprehensive High School - Kumbo, Saint Aloysius Minor Seminary - Kitiwum, Chaffee Memorial College - Kumbo, Islamic High School - Kumbo, G.S.S - Kiyan, G.S.S - Kikai, G.S.S - Kitiwum, etc.

To ensure high and efficient performance of council services, English and French classes will be offered to council staff as well as computer lessons in this era where computer knowledge is very essential to the day to day life. As a consequence of this, some very important sectors in the council will be computerized.
