On March 14, 2013, the City of La Crosse Common Council passed a resolution approving the Kumbo Council as a sister city. This Sister City relationship was formed following the Kumbo Council’s request for twinning in 2012.

To this effect, a La Crosse Wisconsin delegation visited in Kumbo on the 18th of May 2013 with the official acceptance letter and the Council Deliberation to twin with Kumbo.

This agreement was presented to the public on the 25th of May 2013. It is against this backdrop that Mayor Njong led a delegation of nine people to La Crosse from June 29th to July 8th 2014.

A Brief History of the Kumbo Council Administration:

imageKumbo Council was created in 1977 out of the defunct Nso Area Council, which was created from the South Western Federation, with headquarters in Ndop.

At the time of its creation, late Mr. Bernard Bruno Wirnkar was elected Mayor. Late Mr. Ntani Daniel later succeeded him as Mayor in 1991 and ruled the council till 1996 when the Social Democratic Front took over, and Mr. Njong Fonyuy Donatus was elected. He has been at the helm of the council from then till date.

Before the creation of the council, his Royal Highness the Fon of Nso - Sehm Ataar, administered Nso with assistance from the Fons of Oku, Mbiame, Nseh, Nkar and Ndzeen. These Fons had a common council presided at by the Fon of Nso, where they planned and made rules ... Read more

Fon's Palace

The Palace of the Fon of NSO:

imageThe Fon's Palace (Nto' Nso) - Seat of the Paramount Chief of the Nso people (Sehm Mbinglo I); this place is the heart of Kumbo social and cultural life. It is composed of several traditional buildings decorated with wood carvings, around 2 courtyards where the Fon uses to sit and receive his people or his advisers.

In the middle of the first one, stands a statue of Ngonso, the legendary first queen of the Nso people. Around the palace, other traditional buildings are also decorated with wood carvings. They are the seats of the sacred societies in charge to help the Fon in his task : the Ngwerong society and the Nggiri society. A mosque was built next to them, although most of Nso people are Christians.

The Bishop's House of the Diocese of KUMBO:

The Banso Baptist Hospital - BBH:

imageThe Banso Baptist Hospital (BBH) is the first of 5 Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Board (CBCHB) Hospitals. Established in 1949 out of a government cottage hospital with 4 small buildings and 20 beds, BBH has grown to a current bed capacity of 250 with a staff strength of over 400.

BBH today stands as one of the most renowned hospitals in Cameroon. It provides exemplary services through Christ-centered, evidence-based health care practices to over 60.000 patients annually (in-patients and out-patients) from all over Cameroon and some neighboring countries. The Tadu Dairy Cooperative Society - TDCS:

TDCS' Mission is to enhance the performance of pastoral dairying and beef production systems in the western highlands of Cameroon. The pioneer founder, Lawrence SHANG "intended to put the traditional cattle herders at the forefront of a much-needed dairy industry in Cameroon".
