Kumbo Council Mayor’s Cup Final

The 7th edition of the Kumbo Council Mayor’s Cup Competition Football and Handball Finals were played on Saturday 12th November 2011. This is an annual sports event organized by the Kumbo Council to encourage youths and to expose their sporting talents in the handball girls and boys and football boys and girls disciplines.

Presiding over the sporting event, the Senior Divisional Officer for Bui Mr. Ngone Ndode Mesape Bernard congratulated Mayor Njong Fonyuy Donatus for the wonderful initiative which has gone

a long way to unveil new talents. He called on other stakeholders in Bui Division to join hands with the Mayor of Kumbo so that the Division can compete in higher levels as was the case with Kumbo Strikers Football Club of Kumbo that was the first ever Anglophone team to win the Cameroon Cup.

Speaking earlier, Mayor Njong Fonyuy Donatus stressed on the fact that the Mayor’s Cup Competition is an annual event which has been set aside by the Kumbo Council to expose the sporting talents of youths in the Kumbo Municipality. Other reasons, he said are to develop friendship which is a necessary tool for peace and development amongst players which would be extended to other areas in the Municipality. Thanking all who ensured the success of the competition, Mayor Njong encouraged more teams to participate during 2012’s edition.

Worthy of note is the fact that the Football Final was played between Edi Sports FC and BARBERS FC. EDI Sports FC won the final by 5 goals to nil and bagged a cash prize of three hundred thousand francs (300,000FCFA) with a trophy and sixteen gold medals for players and two gold medals for match officials. Barbers FC went home with a cash prize of one hundred and fifty thousand francs (150,000FCFA), sixteen silver medals and two for officials and a trophy. Other prizes went to the best man of the match for each discipline, most disciplined teams, as well as 3rd and 4th prizes. A total of one million six hundred and twenty thousand francs (1620000FCFA) was spent for the general organization of the 2011 Mayor’s Cup Competition.
