KC Distributes Minimum Package to Primary Schools

The Kumbo Council under the leadership of Mayor Njong Fonyuy Donatus has distributed the 2011/2012 “minimum package” comprising, stationeries, didactic materials, pedagogic materials, First Aid Items, and Sports Items, to 30 Government Primary Schools within the Kumbo Municipality. This falls in line with the ongoing decentralization process, whereby some powers of the central government have been devolved to Councils.

Speaking at the ceremony, the 2nd Assistant Senior Divisional Officer for Bui congratulated

and encouraged the Kumbo Council for all they are doing for the Education Sector. He promised to transmit the worries raised to the hierarchy and called on Head Teachers to judiciously use the materials. In his opening speech, Mayor Njong F. Donatus appreciated the Head Teachers for the good performance of their schools, in the end of course examinations. He wished that the materials distributed should be effectively put into use and produce better examination results.

Furthermore, the Mayor underscored the problem of Japanese schools being constructed in some divisions and exempting Bui Division. He called on the Bui Divisional Delegate of Basic Education to follow-up for Bui Division to benefit from the construction of these schools.

The Bui Divisional Delegate of Basic Education, represented by Mr. Allain Ngoran expressed gratitude to the Kumbo Council for providing efficient material to schools, saying that since Councils took over the distribution of the minimum package, he has never had any bad report from Kumbo. He said the schools have been using the materials well, reason why results have been encouraging. The Delegate advised head teachers to manage the materials well until the academic year runs out.

In a related development, the Kumbo Council awarded some prizes worth two hundred and seventy five thousand francs (275,000 FCFA) to 26 Public and Private Primary Schools that did extremely well during the 2010/2011 First School Leaving and Common Entrance examinations. This, Mayor Njong said was a sign of encouragement to these schools and to others to copy the good example.
